well i thought being pregnant was a challenge (4+ months bed rest)
i think trying to hold a reflux baby upright for twenty minutes with no sleep
is nearly impossible, at least for safety's sake

but what i've learned is this,
there's always something harder
and the thing i conquered before looks like a cake walk now

imagine an infant who used to coo in your general direction (eyes dancing)
as they sucked the good nature outta ya
now screaming at the actual sight of your breasts!

that was about two weeks ago,
now we're on the shield
when she feels like it
which is rare at best

we've bathed together
had booby time
and any other way i can possibly think
to show her that boobs have milk
and it's faster than the bottle

good luck to me, my prune fingers, and my tired boobies
from all that washing, pumping, and repeating!

I had to do the nipple shield thing from the get go too. I was sent home from the hospital with sugar watar and a little tube and syringe with sugar water to slip under the shield. At home, I had no instructions for what to do next. Something I figured out for having my daughter upright at night was to put her in her carseat and the carseat inside her co-sleeper. It took us 5 months to get her to nurse on my breast without the shield and a whole lotta judgement from family who thought BF was a natural occurrence that just happens instinctually. I feel your pain. Let me know if you need any support with it...I was the only person I knew when we were going through it. Good luck mama!
